Here are some pictures of Maps and Drive on Nokia N9. As you can see on the pictures bellow, there is a search option where you can search for different locations, as your current location is shown when you load up Nokia Maps first time.
Of course, there are options to search through categories for things like transports, shops, companies, objects, food and drink, museums, etc.
If you want car navigation, then there is Drive, Nokia separate application used for car navigation.
So, Maps will find places where you want to go, and Drive will take you there.
